AFT Takes Action: Nationwide Initiative to Support Education and Promote Democracy
The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), an organization with 1.7 million members, has launched a nationwide bus tour, “#AFTvotes—What Kids and Communities Need.” The tour aims to encourage voter turnout and highlight the critical choices facing our divided nation.
The AFT’s initiative will feature numerous community events, including book giveaways, roundtables, canvassing, and door knocking. These events are designed to support candidates dedicated to promoting freedom and democracy, affordable healthcare, and investments in quality public schools. The tour seeks to challenge those who intend to ban books, censor history, cut Medicare and Social Security, and allow corporations to exploit the public.
The tour will span 20 days across at least 10 states and 25 cities, from its kickoff in Green Bay, Wisconsin, through Election Day on November 8th. Stops include Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New York.
AFT President Randi Weingarten emphasized the importance of this election, stating that it will determine the future of our democracy, public education, healthcare, Medicare, Social Security, safety from gun violence, and economic security.
Weingarten also highlighted that the tour is about more than just political issues. It’s about focusing on what children and communities need to recover and thrive in these challenging times. It aims to elevate the everyday work of AFT members, making a difference in the lives of kids, patients, and communities.
We support initiatives that promote age-appropriate, quality education, and uphold democratic values. We believe in an education system that nurtures the growth of our children into well-rounded individuals, equipped with the necessary academic and life skills.
Join us as we stand in solidarity with educators and communities across the nation, advocating for a reformed educational system that respects the innocence of children and enhances their understanding of the world.
Government teacher unions use their money and power to buy off political influence, but with your help we will end it. Sign the petition below.
Government unions should not exist. Public service should focus on serving the public good and those that enter it should be in the business of serving. Government jobs were never meant to hold the public – its families, children, and society hostage.
At Institute for Education Reform, we dedicate our efforts to once again put every child, parent, and American first in the mission of public service and not let them be forgotten. Americans should get an accountable and manageable government workforce, not one that teaches kids how to hate themselves while bankrupting our government to ensure they are never fired for bad work.
Our President, Matt Buckham, recently handled personnel for President Donald Trump where he oversaw cabinet level departments, including Department of Labor, and other independent agencies. In this role, Matt pushed to place leaders throughout government and coordinate the recapture of Executive Branch agencies that were under career and opposition control. Matt was one of the first staffers for the House Freedom Caucus, helping them navigate their first year as a group. Matt has served on Capitol Hill for over 11 years in various 501c3, government, and Executive Branch roles. He is a follower of Jesus Christ called to bring freedom to the captives.

The institute strives for the outright banning of all public sector employee collective bargaining and thus the ensuing collection of compulsory dues that warp the fabric of government by shutting out taxpayers from decision-making.
