NYC Teachers Union Hosts Controversial Seminar on ‘Harmful Effects of Whiteness’

The United Federation of Teachers (UFT), New York City’s teachers union, has sparked controversy by sponsoring a virtual workshop addressing the so-called “harmful effects of whiteness.” The event, titled “Holding the Weight on Whiteness,” took place on Monday and was led by Queens-based psychotherapy consultant Erica Sandoval.

The Institute for Education Reform emphasizes that education should be a space for fostering understanding, respect, and equality among all students. We do not support initiatives that could potentially divide or alienate students based on their racial or ethnic backgrounds.

Critics of the UFT’s workshop, including Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli, have expressed concerns about the event’s focus. Borelli questioned why combating “toxic whiteness” has become a priority for the UFT, given the ongoing issues of poor performance within the school system.

Maud Maron, a public school parent activist, called the workshop “racist and bad for students,” stating, “There is nothing wrong with being white, and the sleight of hand of talking about whiteness is not even a fig leaf’s worth of cover.”

At the Institute for Education Reform, we believe in promoting an inclusive, respectful, and unbiased learning environment for all students. We advocate for a curriculum that fosters mutual respect and understanding, rather than one that promotes division or bias.

Join us as we continue to work towards an education system that respects and celebrates the diversity of our students and their families.

IER Dedicates Efforts to Ending the Attacks by Government Teacher Unions against Teachers, Parents and Families

Government unions should not exist. Public service should focus on serving the public good and those that enter it should be in the business of serving. Government jobs were never meant to hold the public – its families, children, and society hostage.

At Institute for Education Reform, we dedicate our efforts to once again put every child, parent, and American first in the mission of public service and not let them be forgotten. Americans should get an accountable and manageable government workforce, not one that teaches kids how to hate themselves while bankrupting our government to ensure they are never fired for bad work.

Our President, Matt Buckham, recently handled personnel for President Donald Trump where he oversaw cabinet level departments, including Department of Labor, and other independent agencies. In this role, Matt pushed to place leaders throughout government and coordinate the recapture of Executive Branch agencies that were under career and opposition control. Matt was one of the first staffers for the House Freedom Caucus, helping them navigate their first year as a group. Matt has served on Capitol Hill for over 11 years in various 501c3, government, and Executive Branch roles. He is a follower of Jesus Christ called to bring freedom to the captives.

The institute strives for the outright banning of all public sector employee collective bargaining and thus the ensuing collection of compulsory dues that warp the fabric of government by shutting out taxpayers from decision-making.
